Your data in Soa

Last updated: 28 October 2026

In short

  • Soa keeps what it needs to make the app work: your account, your mood, your journal, your sessions and your programmes.
  • AI is optional. You choose it when you create your account, and you can turn it off any time in Settings. If your account was created before 20 May 2026, AI stays on until you turn it off.
  • Without AI, Soa still works: a short form replaces the conversation, and your programme is chosen without AI.
  • You can delete your account and ask for a copy of your data.

What Soa keeps

Your account. Your email, your first name or username, your language, your time zone and your subscription status. If you fill them in, also your profile picture, your date of birth or age range, your gender and your nationality.

Your mood. Your mood check-ins, with whatever you choose to add.

Your journal. What you write in your journal.

Your sessions and programmes. The programme you follow, the sessions you started or finished, and your progress. This is what lets Soa show you where you are.

Your sign-up answers. Why you are here, what weighs on you, how it affects your day, what you would like to change and when it happens. They touch on your health, so Soa uses them to suggest sessions and programmes. If you fill in the form, the option you pick is also used for usage statistics (see PostHog below). If you go through the conversation with the AI, these are the answers the AI summarised from what you wrote.

How you heard about Soa. Your answer to "How did you hear about Soa?". On Android, the app also notes which link brought you to Soa, to learn which channels work. Soa does not use your phone's advertising ID.

Your subscription. Payments go through Stripe. Soa never sees your card number. Soa keeps your Stripe customer ID and your subscription status.

What AI does, if you turn it on

While AI is on, here is what is sent, and to whom:

  • The welcome conversation. What you write in the first conversation goes to Anthropic, with your first name, age, gender and nationality if you gave them.
  • Your mood. When you do your mood check-in on the home screen, your mood and the causes you pick go to Google, to suggest sessions that fit it.
  • Discover. Your conversation with Discover goes to Google, to check it is not about a crisis, find sessions that fit you and write the reply. Your profile is not sent.
  • Your journal. The text of your entries goes to Google, which draws a summary and themes from it. Soa uses them to suggest sessions.
  • Choosing your programme. Your sign-up answers go to OpenAI, to find the programmes closest to them.
  • Refining your programme. If the suggested programmes do not suit you, your sign-up answers and what you write in that conversation go to Google, and what you are looking for goes to OpenAI.
  • Dictation. If you speak instead of typing, in the welcome conversation or when you refine your programme, the recording goes to OpenAI to be turned into text. Soa does not keep the recording. The text is handled as if you had typed it.

What Soa keeps from what AI does.

  • From the welcome conversation: your sign-up answers as summarised by the AI, a short summary of your profile, your goal, as the AI wrote it, and a marker noting whether the AI saw signs of distress in what you wrote.
  • From your journal: the summary, the themes, the mood the AI guessed, a reflection and the suggested sessions, and a numeric fingerprint of the text used to find sessions, kept with your journal.
  • From refining: the suggested programmes, the explanation written by the AI, a marker noting whether the AI saw signs of distress, and a summary of what you said. If that summary fails, your last message is kept as it is.
  • The programmes suggested to you are kept with your account.

The text of your conversations with Discover and with the welcome AI is not kept in Soa's database.

What this page does not promise. How long Anthropic, Google and OpenAI keep what they receive, and whether they use it to train their models, depends on their own terms. Soa has not yet checked this against its signed contracts, so this page promises nothing on those two points.

When AI is off

Open Settings, then Your data and AI, and switch off AI in Soa. You can switch it back on whenever you like.

From then on, for every new request: no welcome conversation with the AI, no sessions suggested from your mood, no Discover, no journal analysis, no refining. Your programme is chosen from your answers, using a table written by the Soa team, without sending anything to an AI service.

Turning AI off does not erase what was already done. For that, see "Delete your account".

Other services Soa uses

  • Supabase: the database, sign-in and storage, hosted in Paris.
  • Google and Apple: signing in with your Google or Apple account, if you choose it.
  • Stripe: payments.
  • PostHog: usage statistics, linked to your account, to understand how the app is used (screens viewed, sessions started, sign-up steps). When you answer the sign-up form questions, the option you pick (for example "anxiety") is sent there. What you type yourself is not sent, nor the content of your journal or your mood notes.
  • Sentry: crash reports, with technical details and your account ID, without your email. Hosted in Germany.
  • Resend: emails (welcome, follow-up, cancellation).
  • Expo: notifications, if you accepted them.
  • Vercel: hosting for our website, the web version of the app and the subscription portal.

How long

Here are the periods from our privacy policy, word for word:

  • Account data: for the life of your account, then for an additional limited period (for example, 3 years) for evidence, claims handling, and support.
  • Subscription and billing data: for the duration of the contractual relationship, then for the statutory retention period (for example, 6 to 10 years depending on accounting/tax rules).
  • Wellbeing data: for the duration of your active use of the App, then for a limited period or until you withdraw your consent, before anonymization or deletion.
  • Technical data and logs: for a limited period necessary for security and service improvement (generally a few months).

Delete your account

In the app: Settings, then Delete Account. The app asks you to type DELETE to confirm.

This deletes your account and the data linked to it in Soa's database.

It does not delete everything, everywhere:

  • Your profile picture may stay in our storage. Write to us if you want it removed.
  • Stripe keeps your customer record and invoices, as the law requires.
  • Statistics already sent to PostHog and reports already sent to Sentry are not removed automatically.
  • What the AI services and Resend have already received stays with them under their own terms.
  • Technical logs and backups are cleared over time, not straight away.

If you want us to deal with those leftovers, write to support@joinsoa.app.
